My parents had some crazy ideas about what I was going to do prom night. I couldn't get it into their heads that no way, that wasn't me. Yes way, they said, because you kids are all the same. No way, we're not, I said, it's you parents that are all the same for believing that. Smart mouth, they said. Whatever, I said. Then we both went hughhhh!
Want to talk about what your parents've got to say about you going to prom? This is the place! Maybe we can even make parents listen for a change...
I think a lot of times as teenagers were prone to think that our parents are over-reacting or know nothing about us or whatever but you have to remember that they really do know more than us and they really have seen more than us. Prom night last year I had a curfew, I think it was like 1am or something and at first I was disappointed that i wasn't going to be able to do much with my friend's but the school district my step-dad works for had a senior die in a really bad car crash the morning after because he was trying to get home in time for work I think and it was like 6:30 and he hadn't slept very much and he ran into a light pole. It can happen to anyone so curfews, dress code, whatever are parents just know more than us and we have to trust that they're looking out for us and not just trying to ruin our fun or whatever.

My mom really says that she is worried about how much the Dress is gonna be so am I; all i want is a really cute Dress to stand out from everybody else. I am a kinda HEAVY SET GIRL but I DON'T CARE

My mom is so awesome when it comes to prom. She wants to buy me everything and make it like a dream come true for me. She promised me a hummer limo for prom and any of my friends could come she was paying and any dress i wanted and any shoes. it's almost like she wants for me what she didn't get and i love her for that. my mom is awesome and i love her so much!!!

My mum is so annoying she thinks that im doing drugs and meeting all these guys. So i told her that for the prom night im going to stay round my mates house. But in stead i'm going to stay round my boyfreinds house who shes knows about and likes. So me m and my bf are going to prom and then we are going to go and stay in a nice posh hotel the night but after the prom me and him and a load of our mates are going to go out and get completly hanging lol.Like usural.

Okay so im a 14 yr old freshman going to the junior senior prom, the school i go to has less than 100 students in the high school and is a public school. i am so happy my parents are my parents. my mom said i could go and im excited were looking at prom dresses online and having a blast. i hope she lets me go to a after party, but i doubt she will. idk why parents dont trust their kids these submissions are deppresing, parents need to remember that they were kids once and having fun is important

My parents are pretty cool with prom. They don't mind that I go, and even help me buy my things for prom. I think my mom likes to help me shop because my older two sisters never let her and she's getting older now and misses shopping for things like prom and homecoming. My dad doesn't mind either. The only thing I hate is that they won't let me go to the after prom party because I HAVE to go to church in the morning. They don't like the fact that it's not in the gym anymore, but they like me to go. They think it's part of the senior experiance or whatever.

Most of the people who are posting on this are ignorant. Prom isn't that big of a deal. It's a junior/senior thing, but I went to my school's prom my freshman and sophomore year and another school's prom my sophomore year. It's just a dance. There's no reason to freak out about getting a hotel room or whatever. It's just a night to get dressed up and go dancing. Get over yourselves.

My parents are letting me stay out all night, I guess they believe I'll be safe. I'm going with my ex fiance' (I've been in love with him for almost 2 years)! My dad thinks that we're going to a hotel room to hang out with my friends, but my date and I are going to stay at his brother's house, because my best friend is going out with him. :)

My parents are both losers!!!. I love them to death and have alot of respect for both of them. I just think this instead! Parents are such perverts! They think the worst about us when it's not even like that. They have to learn how to TRUST us and give is our space. My mom never did trust me and the more she got in my life the more I messed up. After prom I did NOTHING with my boyfriend, we just went out to eat and had a good time! I love myself so therefore I will respect my body. So parents do us a favor and stop acting ignorant your kides are not like you and we want to do anything in our power to please ya! I love my mom so much but she says things that don't make any sense to me. My father does the same only he is worst.Britt

well my parents are letting me go to prom, but they really don't understand how special prom is to me.I told them i wanted to stay at a hotel with my friends that same weekend after prom, and they freaked out and said no. im 18 and they treat me like im 12.my curfew normally is 11:30!! and on prom they want me to be home right after its over! they are crazy.im going to try to convince them to let me stay in a hotel that weekend, and if they keep sayin no well then im going to do it anyway.but i don't want to get them mad. i just wished they understood me. And wat gets me mad im bout to turn 19 and they don't really trust me when i want to do somethin fun.all i want is some freedom on prom nite and to let me saty wit my friends in a hotel.and to stop treatin me like im a liitle baby!i guess its cuz im the only child, but still!!! im an adult NOW.how can i make them understand???

My parents told me I could do whatever I wanted for prom. ME and my friends and our boyfriends are renting a beach house and getting trashed! I told my parents and they were cool with it. -- Julie Loma Linda CA
I actually have guardians that I live with. They are my cousins. But they treat me as though I am thier daughter. Anyway, the guy I really want to go with to my junior prom is 21 so they really don't like the fact that I even associate with him, so that isn't going to happen. So I told them I would take my best friend from another school, who is a girl, just so we can bug out and make prom fun! So they said that was cool. Then after prom we want to get a hotel room in Wildwood, NJ, a nd they almost had a heart-attack! I mean really what are a bunch of girls going to do in a hotel? The only boys there would be the ones that went with my friends, so it's not like I would be doing anything wrong, right?
-- Bridgette CHS Clayton NJ My parents told me that I had to stay somewhere that they know the parents will separate boys and girls when they go to sleep. Ok, we all know that NO parents ever do that when having parties. And I asked my mom, "Mom.. this doesn't make sense.. I'm a good kid.. I don't smoke, drink, have sex, ..why can't you just trust me?" Then I realized.. it's not all about trust. The rules are like that because she cares for me and doesn't want to allow me to be in that kind of position. Not to mention, sleeping with boys ..even if just friends.. is inapporpriate, anyways. We'll all be together till the wee hrs of the morning it makes no sense why we can't just split up to go to sleep. So I'm a little upset with my mom, but deep down I understand. Everyone, remember to stand your ground on prom night..and all nights. Set a good example for others. Allow God to be a part of your prom night. Take a stand and don't drink, smoke, and have sex.. or even sleep with guys. Respect your paren t s' wishes and just "go with the flow". Fighting will do no good. It'll only make you look immature. Please be cautious, especially on prom night. I wish you all the best of luck.. have fun!
-- Alexis it was my junior prom last year, and i knew this would be a testing time in my parents' life. You see, they are honestly one of the most strict out of all my friends' parents. I wasn't even allowed to go to a sleepover, for the fear of being raped. Anyway, being such a good girl (i don't EVER drink or smoke and NEVER intend to!) my parents wanted me straight home and wouldn't allow me to go to my friends' house to sleepover (yes sounds sort of like an excuse but it wasn't. my frien d was a total goody-good )and so after much disagreement and fights , i lost and my dad picked me up at the prom at 12:00pm. I just wish my parents would trust me more, and respect me as a young adult, well hopefully this year won't be as bad.. i'm thinking of suggesting having the after-prom at my house. at least they would sleep more easy knowing their only daughter will be at home with her friends after-prom!
-- Lisa My parents r really cool about the whole prom thing. Im a sophmore, going to a senior prom. At first knowing that i was "talkin" to a senior i had a feeling we would get closer (which is good) and had a feeling he would ask me to prom! knowin this i was like 'omg what will my mom say' then he asked, i said yes, we told my mom, and she was kool about it! Usually my mom is like not strict but doesnt let me do whatever i want, and im pretty sure its because i have 3 younger sisters and a younger brother n they want to do everything i do. but im just trying to tell you all.. show your parents how mature u can be, and i can tell u they will let u do alot more!! ((good luck everyone))
-- Alex Baltimore MD ehh..well im going to my 1st prom this year..yay..though my parents arent very thrilled cuz im just 16 and sophmore and my boyfriend is a senior and hes 18 w/ facial hair so its makes him look older even though he has lil boys face..but my parents have been w/ me all my all my life and they have come to trust me..even though their not quite sure how long the'll let me stay out..hopefully at least until it ends..but im thankful that they trust me enough to be independent.
-- Denise CA My parents are totally cool with me going to the prom. My sister went every year in high school except her junior year...so they already know the drill. My parents really trust me, as they should.... afterall I'm not a wild child and I've never broken their trust before. So the concept of me going to prom and staying out of trouble isn't hard to grasp. So needless to say I'm totally psyched about my first prom and really love my parents for trusting me to do what they've taught me!
-- Vera GA they dont want to let me go to prom because their scared that ill lose my virginity, what they dont know is that i lost it already. how would i tell them?
-- Stacey pacific high San Bernardino CA My parents are very excited for me to go prom, i think they are also a bit scared because of the accidents that are dealing with drinking. but i told them that i will not drink and also let anyong drive if they are drinking. but they are excited because im a senior and its my last time to have a good ol time.

-- Giselle Smithers Prom is a pretty tame night in my school. All grades attend (8-12) and it is a generally fun, safe night so my parents have always let me go. This is the first year (sophomore) that i am going with a date! I told my mom about the guy, and she really likes him so she's cool with it...I can't wait. However, my parents will be away that weekend so we have to get my friend's dad to drive me and my friend to prom. They did not want my friend who has her license to drive for some reason. M y date and I can't drive because we don't have our licences yet. BC Smithers Secondary School

ok heres the deal. i am an A average student i dont do drugs and ive never had sex. ok then the issue arrives on prom. my mother and father have this whole idea that i am going to go wild at prom night. they dont let me go out and it is truly affecting my relationship with this guy that i am going to prom with. he likes me and i like him. The problem? we can never do anything about it bc of my parents i cant even hold his hand. he always asks for me to put a little more effort into t he relationship but i cant bc of my 'rents. (by the way he is smarter than me he is no.2 in our class rankings)but i cant work this out bc of my 'rents. and i know that he doesnt want to meet up with my older sis and her bf and go out wit them after prom. i feel like such a dork bc thats the only way i could stay out later, by meeting up with my sis and to tell you its embarassing!!! -- Amber Hillridge High Paris TX
My parents don't really care Beacuse the trust me . I will be with someone that they have known so to them there are no worries. Most of all they are waiting to see how we will look together. If you don't give your child an opportunity to do grown people things , they will make childrens decisions all thier life
-- Tracey Arsenal Technical High School Indianapolis IN This is the 4th prom that I go to since I've always been invited. This time is different because it's MY prom. I'm not nervous but my mom is a whole other story. She wants me to look better than ever...talk about pushy. All she does is complain about me not having a prom dress yet, but I have more than 20 gowns in my closet. She made me book for my limo 2 months in advanced. The appointment with hairdesser,make-up,photo studio n all that has been booked since 4 months ago. Makes you wonder whose prom it is. 23:27:33 2004-5-28
-- Jessica Houston well really i have no problem with my mom, but my dad wont hear of me even going to jr. prom! yea...sux! even if i do go its gonna suck bc i dont have a date to go with which is an impossible in my house bc my parents hate the whole "american" thing about boy/girl friends. i'm from india and they still act like we live there! even after being here for like 25 years, my dad doesnt get it! hm...w/e! i guess i'll be ok! TX Cyridge ok..well sophmore year, I was asked to prom by a senior..I was 15, he was 18, haha i told him right of the bat I prob couldnt go with him..so i get home and tell my parents what happened..my mom just gave me this face, and is like HE'S 18??? i think not, u know what boys want on prom night! and then my dad goes "your still a little girl, i think NOT"..ya..they said that even though it was a junior senior prom..and the next year i was going to go to prom anyways..ohh parents..hehe
-- Eva DeserT mountaIN PHX AZ I must admit my parents have been very good about the whole prom issue! They allowed me to go without much fuss during my sophomore, junior, and now my senior years. My advantage was that they knew, and loved, my boyfriend. Also, I was clear about what was going on afterwards and was respectful to them. I knew my first year that they wouldn't want me out long, so we simply went out for ice-cream and came back to my house to hand out. Last year, my junior year, I called to let t h em know that we were invited to a friend's house for a little get- together and asked their permission. It was late when I got in, but I had given them an estimate on when I'd be home, so they didn't worry and just went to bed. They feel they can pretty much trust me because I don't give them any reasons not to - I don't drink or do drugs or get in trouble! I have earned their trust so they give it to me... Now let's see how that trust goes when I ask about my plans to get a hotel ro o m with a bunch of my friends and their dates....
-- Nikki Johnstown PA i was so happy when they asked me to prom i screamed. i was loke yeah todaly. then i told my mom the whole story and that i wanted to go really bad. my moms one of those people that think you only go to jerk of and do stuff. anyways i was so happy and told her how i felt. she responded me with saying im sorry but you can't go. i was so mad and upset that i just started crying and trying to hold back evrything so that they wouldnt see me. i wish my mom could undestand the way that i r eally feel inside. maybe soon some day i will be able to tell someone other then the computer my problems. i really did wish that my mom would of understood me. maybe next time.
-- Carla La Habra High School La Habra CA My mom is so excited about me going to Prom! She can't wait. She's paying for everything, which I feel bad about, but ya know. She thinks (as do I) that Prom is a huge deal. My curfew is usually around midnight, but she's encouraging staying out late!!! Yeah, my mom's being pretty cool about it, and my whole family is excited.
-- Sarah Elgin High Elgin IL Wow, I never really realized how completely psycho some parents are.. Did their parents not let them go to prom or something? It's a part of the highschool experience and trying to keep your kids out of it is just stupid.. I am suddenly thankful for my very sane parents..
-- Jackie PCHS Pekin IL Well I guess I am the only guy intrested (worried) enough to look online for help with prom...Well LEts get started. I asked 3 girls to go with me and they all said no (one laughed). So I gave up on prom for a while till my friend who I know and trust said she would go. I am not going to do anything crazy because the college I want to go to says if I have any children I am no longer accepted and so far ive passed up a few offers due to that fact. My date is Mormon so she will be a g o od girl too. Well my parents are going to fly her in from utah which is crazy so I have there support and trust. Its meeting her parents that worried me. Her father took me on the tour of the house, then the barn (scary) the house was nice. But the first barn house his gunnery awards and his extensive gun collection. The next one held the tool of his trade (cattel) and he showed me the castration device for calves. He then sized me up and said "Well, if you hurt my little girl I'll make you fi t " I was dressed nicely and I was impeccably polite. So girls when your father wants a man to man talk with the guy your father is really going for below the belt and he means business.
